Did You See What Tipping Point Just Did?

If you’ve been following the news out of San Francisco, you probably caught the big headline:

Let that sink in for a sec.

This isn’t just a big swing—it’s a direct response to anticipated cuts in federal aid and growing local need. Tipping Point is stepping into a leadership vacuum and betting big on what philanthropy can do when policy falls short.

And that’s the part I want to focus on:

What happens when nonprofits have to fill the gap?

This story has huge implications for small and midsize agencies, too. Because while we may not all be pulling in hundreds of millions each year, the pressures Tipping Point is responding to? They’re hitting everyone.

🛑 Fewer public dollars

🛑 Rising community needs

🛑 Inflation hitting operations and donors alike

And here's the kicker:

While government and foundation dollars may be drying up in some areas, individual donors are still giving—especially when they feel a strong call to act.

So what can we learn from Tipping Point?

  • They didn’t shrink their mission to fit the funding.

They scaled up their fundraising to match their vision.

  • They’re making the case early.

They’re not waiting for the crisis to deepen. They’re building a war chest now.

  • They’re leaning into local leadership.

This campaign is rooted in the belief that community-based solutions matter most.

If you’re running a small shop and wondering what all this has to do with you, here’s my take:

💡 You don’t have to raise $1 billion. But you do need to talk honestly with your donors about what’s changing—and invite them to be part of the solution.

💡 You don’t need a slick campaign. But you do need a bold, clear ask rooted in your values.

💡 You don’t have to go it alone. (That’s where fractional fundraising can help.)

📬 Want to build a campaign that speaks to the moment?

Let’s talk. I help small nonprofits like yours punch above your weight—with the strategy, words, and systems that make it possible.
