Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs) Deserve The Spotlight

Donor-Advised Funds—better known as DAFs—are growing like crazy. Yet many nonprofits barely talk about them. That’s a missed opportunity. Your donors can’t give through a DAF if they don’t know you accept them—or if the process feels like navigating a maze.

Here’s how to make it simple:

  1. Say it out loud. Put “We accept DAF gifts” on your website, your appeal letters, and even your email footers. Don’t assume people know.

  2. Say it proud. Make your EIN prominent so gifts can be made easily. Donors often need that number to complete a DAF gift, and when it’s front and center, you remove friction and make giving feel effortless. 🔑

  3. Celebrate it. When a donor gives through their DAF, acknowledge it with the same warmth and specificity you’d use for any other gift. 🎉 It’s not a faceless account—it’s a person choosing you.

  4. Invite the story. Many DAF donors love to share why they give. Ask if you can highlight their generosity (with permission). That personalizes the experience and encourages others. 💬

DAFs aren’t complicated—they just need a spotlight. Shine one, and you may discover your supporters are more ready than you think.

👉 Nonprofits work with me because I take overlooked opportunities—like DAFs—and transform them into reliable revenue

Strong, consistent communications aren’t just nice to have; they’re the difference between missing out and unlocking major gifts. If you want to make sure DAFs (and other specialized channels) are promoted year-round—not just once—you should book a free consulting session with me. We’ll talk through how better communications can turn hidden opportunities into steady streams of support.
